On Friday, during our slip-and-slide day at Wellspring skilled nursing and rehab in Frankenmuth, there was more than just the slip-and-slide! Residents and staff invited their families for fun activities and live music! Residents who didn’t brave the slip-and-slide were out enjoying the beautiful day with friends and family!

Wellspring president/CEO, @davidmgehm on the set live at @wnemtv5news this morning talking about Memory Support at our Senior Living Campus in #Saginaw. Wellspring cares for residents who are living with Alzhiemers and other dementias and we do that using a unique approach, the ‘Best Friends’ approach. Wellspring believes it’s not just about caring and meeting the physical needs of the people we serve, but also caring about who they are. What do our residents care about, who do they care about, what do they like to do for fun, etc. we believe in building relationships and getting to know our residents, just the way you would your best friend. Everyone deserves this kind of care. saginawseniorliving.com

Day two from camp counselor @al.kaul.1 “Camp Hope Day 2 was a great day. Kids got to work with our equestrian therapy team to build confidence and communication skills, and they got to share more of their personal stories during our pillow making activity, and they spent time identifying who is in their support system when they need to talk to someone. That last one can be a rough one. Kids don’t always have the right words to talk about grief and the flood of confusing emotions that comes with it. And they often don’t want to go to a family member who they believe is also grieving because they don’t want to upset that person. But we try to help these kids identify other sources of support including things that they can do - not just people that they can talk to. Grieving kids benefit from music, journaling, drawing, and other physical activity that allows a sporadic release of emotion. Kids grieve differently from adults. We often forget that. We work for a pretty amazing God who has designed human beings to heal on the inside as well as the outside, and to form relationships with one another that help us get through this side of life.”

These kids have experienced greater loss than most adults have. Each of them come to camp a little nervous, but soon realize they are amongst kids their age who are experiencing loss in their hearts too. Throughout this week the kids have shared smiles, laughter, and even tears. Leaving camp they are equipped with ways to help them express and deal with the grief in their hearts. They also have made friendships they will never forget. Thank you to all of the generous donors who believe in Camp Hope and also to all of our volunteers and staff.
